Takamori Dengaku
“Dengaku” is an ancient dish, derived from the Dengaku dances that prayed for good harvests for farmers.
It is said in Takamori Town that Takamori Dengaku began when villagers from the area who left on pilgrimages across the country around 250 years ago returned having eaten tofu dengaku in Kyoto and Izumo, and put the idea into practice with the local specialty of taro (a root vegetable).
