It is the setting of the love stories of Yamasachi-hiko and Toyotama-hime in Hyuga mythology (Japanese mythology centering on the Hyuga Region), and said to be good for marriage, safe childbirth and so on. It is listed in the Michelin Green Guide Japan (2 stars).
