The Shinmachi area located below Shimabara Castle is a number of natural springs and a canal that spans 100 meters in length. It is known by the name Koi-No-Oyogu-Machi, or the City of Swimming Carp. This former castle town where colorful carp swim offers Shimeiso, where you can enjoy tea made from the spring water of the water garden, Yusuikan, where you can experience making kanzarashi, a traditional sweet, and at Seiryutei, which is a free rest area and information center where visitors can relax as they listen to the flowing sounds of the spring water.
