Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center
Bamboo crafts have attracted attention worldwide as art in recent years. The Center exhibits a wide variety of detailed and elegant works that exude character. Beppu bamboo crafts have been a part of local life since ancient times, and have on occasion been loved as souvenirs of guests recuperating at hot springs. They are the only crafts in Oita Prefecture to be designated as traditional arts and crafts by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Center also offers lessons on making bamboo crafts on an advance registration basis.
