Lake Ikeda
Formed by volcanic activity a long time ago, this is Kyushu’s largest caldera lake. It is 233 meters at its deepest point, and has a circumference of 15 kilometers. It is inhabited by many giant mottled eels. Designated a Natural Monument of Ibusuki City, they are 1.8 meters long, 60 centimeters around the chest, and weigh 20 kilograms. This mysterious lake is also said to be inhabited by a strange creature called “Isshi.”
